Fairy Graphics -- Old English Garden Graphics and Book Pages (1899)


This is part two of a series of posts on this lovely vintage book. You can find part one here. It is from 1899 and features fairies graphics and other images in an idyllic English Garden. Take a look at these lovely pages and then download the full set of 9 illustrations at the end, no need to save each individually. Enjoy "A Floral Fantasy in an Old English Garden" and keep an eye out for this one at book sales and online (there are reproduction copies -- the "good" one is from 1899).

Even the title page is lovely! Look at that gorgeous typography -- I really took this to be from the 1930s when I picked it up, because the type and illustrations look like they are a little newer than 1899.


There's a bit of poetry or text and an image on every page:



Next, the personifications of time are shown in a field -- though Father Time looks a bit like Death to me, with his scythe...



Next, fairy in the garden, with some jonquils:




Venus, admiring herself in a looking glass:





Eros/cupid sleeps in the garden:

The Knight is one of the boldest -- and my favorites -- in the book:


A fairy on horseback races through the garden:



Finally, a stag drinks from a pond:
